Professional Midwifery Education and Training (PMET) programme at Fernandez Foundation aims:
The Nurse Practitioner Midwifery Educator (NPM-E) programme was initiated in 2020 with a cohort of 11 M.Sc. nurses and the training programme is 18-month long with six months of residential training focusing on theory and clinical practice followed by 12 months of structured mentorship at their place of posting – State Midwifery Training Institutes.
A cohort of 30 postgraduate nurses from 5 states i.e; Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Orissa and Uttar Pradesh have undergone 6 months of intensive residential training at our institute. The interactive sessions were facilitated by International Midwifery Educators (IMEs) sourced from UCLAN.
The PROMISE App monitors the clinical progress of Midwifery students during their postings in clinical sites. It enables the mentors to assess the clinical competencies achieved by Midwifery students during their training period and internship.
Peer-to-peer (P2P) is a guided e-learning app that helps the midwifery educator trainees to follow the midwifery skills in a stepwise manner, to attain confidence and competence in midwifery skills where respectful maternity care is a cross-cutting theme. It also acts as a guide for both the mentor and mentee. It is a learning platform for both mentors(facilitators) and mentees (midwifery/midwifery educator trainees).
RMC Module would enable midwives to be a part of the voice that advocates for women’s rights during childbirth and learn how to provide compassionate care to the mothers during childbirth, which is the most vulnerable and at the same time the most joyous phase of her life.
Positive results of the midwifery model of care.
